India has an old religious tradition of philanthropy, passed on down the ages by kings, noblemen and rich merchants. 

Jamsetji Tata, the founder of the Tata Group, gave new meaning to this term. In his words: "There is one kind of charity common enough among us… It is that patchwork philanthropy which clothes the ragged, feeds the poor, and heals the sick. I am far from decrying the noble spirit which seeks to help a poor or suffering fellow being. [However] what advances a nation or a community is not so much to prop up its weakest and most helpless members, but to lift up the best and the most gifted, so as to make them of the greatest service to the country."

The Sattva group firmly believes on the views of the Legend Tata and extend it to its fullest capacity and capability. The group contributes in several charitable activities and keeping in line with the Religious background of the Chairman and the family contributes in poor feeding in temples, endowment for building veda patasala's, medical facilities etc. The group is also associated in their individual capacity in building and renovating various temples in Tamilnadu. Donations to the Trust are exempted under Section 80-G of Income Tax Act

The objects for which the trust is established and for which the trust property is to be applied only in India without restriction as to particular religion, caste or community are as under:-

• To give money grants to the poor and needy




• To feed the poor in terms of need and on festive occasions




• To give loans or grants to the poor and needy in times of emergency like pestilence, famine, fire, war, riots, and floods




• To give financial and other assistance to blind, deaf, mute and other handicapped persons




• To establish and run reading rooms, libraries and book banks for the benefit of the public




• To establish, run or maintain schools, colleges, polytechnics and commercial and technical institutions for the benefit of the public




• To arrange for lectures, demonstrations, performances, audio-visual programmes, televisions and recorded programmes on subjects of educational interest to the public




• To institute and grant scholarships for deserving students




• To evoke interest of the students in various subjects beneficial to them by arranging for and running various types of competition among them




• To arrange for an assist in educational excursions or expeditions for the benefit of the public




• To encourage students, teachers and others in various research projects of interest to the public




• To establish, run, maintain and aid medical laboratory, Pathological and other kinds of clinics, nursing homes and hospitals and by giving grants in cash or in kind




• To distribute medicines free of cost or at concessional rates to the public in times of need




• To aid to doctors, nurses and others to go to rural areas and render medical help to the public there




• To run or aid the running of medical, eye and other similar camps for the benefit of the public




• To publish or aid the publication of books, pamphlets, magazines, booklets on subjects of interest and benefit to the public in furtherance of the above stated objects




• To do all or any of the above things in any part of India




• To do all other things which are incidental or ancillary to the attainment of the above stated objects
